3 awesome nashville ice cream spots to visit this summer

2018 Jeep Wrangler Front Red Exterior

Everyone’s doing what they can to stay cool this hot, Southern summer. But when ceiling fans, tank tops, and short shorts aren’t enough, you can never go wrong with a few scoops of ice cream. We’re not talking about the store-bought stuff or dollar cones from a fast food restaurant. While those are all great, you can’t beat fresh, hand-scooped ice cream from a place devoted solely to serving cold, tasty treats.

There are plenty of ice cream joints in Nashville, but you deserve only the best, so here are three awesome Nashville ice cream spots to satisfy your sweet tooth this summer.

jeni’s splendid ice cream

Normally, when we think of an ice cream parlor, we picture an old, homey, wood diner. But who says you can’t enjoy your ice cream in a modern-aesthetic environment? 1892 Eastland Avenue houses only one of a few of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creamlocations in Nashville. At Jeni’s, you’ll find tons of fun flavors like Yazoo Sue and Queen City Cayenne. Not sure if those are up your alley? Jeni’s practically insists that you sample before you buy.

To sweeten the deal even more, Jeni’s uses fresh ingredients grown just for ice cream. For example, farmers hold off watering the strawberries as much as other strawberry farmers would in order to maintain the strawberries’ natural sugar content.

mike’s ice cream fountain

Modern joints are great and all, but sometimes you just need that classic, old-timey atmosphere that seems to make your ice cream taste even better. At 129 2nd Avenue North, you’ll find Mike’s Ice Cream Fountain, which features over 23 tasty flavors of homemade ice cream. Looking for a good cup of joe to have with your frozen treat? Mike’s has some great coffee as well as hot chocolate, tea, frozen espressos, and milkshakes. So whether you need a good drink for breakfast or a cold treat in the afternoon, or both, you’ll find what you’re looking for at Mike’s.

pied piper creamery

A relatively new addition to Nashville, the Pied Piper Creamery has a homey feel, because, well, it’s built in a home. Thanks to the environment and the friendly staff, being at Pied Piper feels kind of like getting ice cream at grandma’s. Located at 114 South 11th Street, Pied Piper sells award-winning ice cream, shakes, malts, sorbets, and floats. Between 24 unique flavors, you have plenty of options. Flavors rotate over time, but some permanent flavors include unique ones like Trailer Trash, Oatmeal Raisin in the Sun, and some regular flavors like strawberry, chocolate, and peanut butter and chocolate.

Ice cream is great for any occasion. Whether you’re looking for a place to finish off a great date night or somewhere to take the kids when they’ve been behaving well, there are plenty of places in Nashville to find a cold dessert. These three great ice cream joints only scratch the surface of what Nashville has to offer, so get out and find your new favorite ice cream spot!
